Learning Patience

Hey everyone! Today I am going to do a nanny diary. This past week of work was a great lesson in patience! It was “D” who taught this all to me. I usually am pretty good at dealing with typical toddler attitudes, but this past week has been a little tougher.

This past week was the dreaded shark week for me, and with that “D” had what I am convinced is her baby shark week. This left both of us at odds with who really is in charge. There were a whole lot of  “no’s”, tears, temper tantrums, and negotiating. Through all of this I realized that instead of continually telling “D” no or do not do that I could say it once then focus on playing with Baby P. At first she would stand next to me screaming and jumping around in anger, but then she realized that if she stopped and would listen she would get the attention she wanted.

Even though the week started out tough and I wanted to pull my hair out “D” and I ended up having a great day today! What are some of the things you do when you need more patience? Let me know in the comments below!



My Majors

Hi everyone! Classes started for me this past week, and with that I decided I would talk a little about my major. Monday was the first day of my classes that are completely centered on my major, which I am super excited about.

For those of you who do not know I am majoring in speech and hearing sciences. My plan is to get my masters in speech language pathology and my doctorate in audiology.  I plan to specialize in a few things, but as of right now I am planning on working with children and veterans.

I originally decided to major in speech language pathology, because of my experiences in speech therapy. I was very blessed to have a great speech therapist, and was able to correct my lisp in a short amount of time. I want to be able to make a difference in someone else’s life the way my speech therapist did for me.

A few months into my major I decided I also wanted to be an audiologist. After becoming more familiar with cochlear implants and hearing loss I realized that this was my ultimate goal, and that I wanted to be an audiologist. I wanted to see the excitement people feel when being able to hear clearly again for the first time in their life.

I love my classes so far, and look forward to the rest of the semester. I also am looking forward to completing my major and starting to work in this field. What inspired you all to choose your majors? Let me know in the comments below!


Smart Strategies to Better Time Management

Hello my name is Annmarie and I am terrible at time management!  I am sure a few of you can relate to that statement. With classes starting again tomorrow I thought now would be a great time to talk about different techniques I am going to be using to better my time management skills and with that hopefully help you too!

The first thing that I have found that really helps me is using a planner! I put everything in my planner, from babysitting jobs to my school schedule and assignments. I have used many different planners, but this year I am using a Mead planner from Target. When writing out everything I assign a certain color to each topic. I even use different colors for each class. So one class may be purple and another will be brown. Being able to see the different things I need to do in different colors really helps and keeps my attention.

The next thing that helps with managing time is to set a time limit for each activity. I totally understand that this might not work for everything, but with most it should. I know that managing school, work and other activities can be difficult. However, on days that I have to work, go to school, and do other activities I can set this time out. An example of what I might do for Mondays is; Work 7:30-12:30, School 2-4:30, Chiropractor 5:30-6. With those three main things it does not leave a whole lot of time to do much else. So I could set an hour and a half for studying for each class. I also have gotten in the habit of working out every day so on my busy days I can find a few five minute workouts and do those! I have yet to try this technique, but I definitely plan to do so tomorrow!

The last thing I am going to talk about is planning out your weeks and making sure you have everything ready ahead of time. This will cut down on time during the individual days. I have done this and it definitely works! With that being said I do not do it every week, which I plan on changing.  For me this might be planning out my blog posts and having them typed and saved on my computer. By doing that I do not have to stress about my lack of time to type up a post and sometimes even come up with a topic! If I have everything typed and planned I can just copy it to the blog page and publish it in a few minutes, which will end up saving me 5 hours a week at least!

I am in no way a professional at time management, but by doing these different techniques weekly and even daily I hope to make things so much easier on myself! 24 Facts about Me

Hey everyone! For today’s post I thought I would take a couple minutes to share with you 24 facts about me.

  1. I am a college student, and am majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences.
  2. I work as a nanny to 3 girls
  3. I am the oldest of three. I have two younger brothers!
  4. I love to watch television shows and movies. I have so many shows that I love to watch weekly and often binge Netflix shows.
  5. I have a ton of mugs and water bottles that I hardly ever use. However, I continue to buy more!
  6. I love ABBA! I have a station on my Pandora account dedicated to ABBA and know basically every song.
  7. I teach primary at my church and have done so on and off for 7 years. I started at 18 and stopped at 22 then picked up again this year!
  8. I really enjoy doing crafts! Pinterest is my kryptonite.
  9. I love superhero movies and shows. Captain America is my favorite!
  10. I love sports! My favorites are; baseball, football, rugby, and NASCAR.
  11. Whenever I go to Target or the bookstore I always buy stationary and notebooks.
  12. I go to the chiropractor weekly to bi-weekly and have seen an incredible difference.
  13. I drink coca cola or cherry Pepsi once a day
  14. My prized possession is a stuffed seal I got from my parents as a baby.
  15. I love Toms! I have at least 10 pairs.
  16. I have 2 dogs that I love. One is a pocket Pitbull named Chloe and the other is a Great Pyrenees mix named Harvey.
  17. My favorite holiday is the Fourth of July. I have no idea why it is my favorite though.
  18. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  19. I got engaged at 21 years old. Things did not last with him though.
  20. I love rodeos. I have gone to at least 1 every year for the past 3 with my best friend.
  21. I am not a huge fan of sweets. However, when I do eat any it is sweet tarts (not the yellow ones) or chocolate cherries.
  22. I love reading! I will not read Jane Austen though. When I read Pride and Prejudice for high school I screamed “I want my life back.”
  23. I love shopping! My favorite places are target, kohl’s, amazon, and etsy.
  24. My favorite music genre is country music! Josh Turner and Dierks Bentley are my absolute favorites.

It’s all about Balance

Hey everyone! Today was a super crazy day at work, and it was definitely hard to keep with my goal to eat healthier and exercise daily. Even though today was crazy, I was able to maintain balance in my day.

Today at work “B”, “D”, and Baby P were super energetic and crazy. I cleaned up an insane amount of milk off the floor and was spit up on a few times! While at work instead of eating healthy I ended up eating 2 pop tarts with butter on them. Once I got home things did not really improve in the sense with my eating habits. I ate Chick-fil-a French fries and drank a coke. After all that I did not want to do my daily workout, but I forced myself to do it. I am super glad I did too! After I got the workout done I was able to relax and watch my favorite show.

Even though I did not eat as healthy as I would have liked, I did work out. It really is all about balance. I really wanted to just lie around and eat junk food, and even though I did do that I also did my daily workout video and was able to make up for some of the calories I ate! Life as a Nanny

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great first day back to work. Mine was crazy! Today I want to do a new sort of post. A few months back I heard about the book The Nanny Diaries written by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. I have yet to read the book, but the whole idea really sparked my interest! In the spirit of that book I have decided I wanted to do a nanny diaries type post. It will not be every day, but I am sure I will have one at least once a week!

I am a nanny to 3 girls under the age of 6.  I will refer to them as “B”, “D”, and Baby P! I had the privilege to watch “D” when she was an infant and am now getting to watch her again. Baby P is the main child I nanny for, but for the next month or two it will be all three girls, the main portion of my day is spent with “D” and Baby P.

“B” is the oldest and she is my helper! She can be a handful at times, but whenever I am trying to help the two youngest girls or am covered in spit up she comes to the rescue! I cannot count how many times I have had spit up down my leg and all over Baby P and “B” has come running with a cloth. She not only is great at helping with Baby P, but she will help “D” get things down or talk to her when she is feeling angry and needs some extra love. “B” loves Shimmer and Shine and all things Disney! She is definitely my go to kid when I have a craft idea.

“D” is the middle child and is definitely the most chill! However she does have her crazy moments like all toddlers. “D” is always up for anything which I love! One of her favorite places to go is the library to check out books. “D” currently likes any television shows. I recently showed her Higglytown Heroes, a show from when I was a kid, and she is obsessed! There is not a day that goes by where she is not asking to watch Higglytown Heroes. “D” is not only the one who loves every show, but she is the one who also says the funniest things! She is like a teenager stuck in a toddler’s body!

Baby P is the youngest and is the easiest! She is the most patient baby I have ever met! I have mentioned Baby P in a few of my posts. One of the things I have mentioned is that she has spina bifida. However, she does not let that keep her from doing anything! She is constantly trying to roll and pull herself up into a sitting position. I am so proud of how much progress she has made and of all the milestones she is hitting! Baby P is always happy and smiling, but when she wants attention she will let you know. Just today she spent five minutes screaming continuously. She was not angry or upset in the least bit; she just wanted everyone to look at her. When the girls and I did look she started cracking up. Baby P’s favorite things at the moment are; watching television with her sisters, playing with toys and teething toys, and occasionally kicking “B” and “D” in the head with the bar from her corrective boots.

I truly love working with these girls, and they make my life so much better. There are those days when I am ready to pull my hair out, but I would not change a thing! I hope you all enjoyed learning about these girls, and will continue to join “B”, “D”, and Baby P on all of our adventures!


Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you are all had a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. I had the week off of work and was able to hang out with my family and best friend.  For today’s post I am going to talk about my posting plan for the next year.

I recently changed my blog to posting daily and having a certain topic for each day. It was a great way to end the year; however I did realize that I had trouble thinking of a post for each day. With that being said I do plan to continue posting daily. The thing that will change is the content I am posting. I will not be doing set topics for each day anymore. Instead, I will be posting about whatever I feel will be enjoyed for that day.

This year I am going to center my blog on being a college student and my work as a nanny. I will still be sharing recipes I make, books I read, projects I make, shows I love at the moment, and the products I swear by.  I will also start posting about experiences I have as a nanny or at school.

I hope you will all enjoy what I am going to do with the blog! I hope you all have a wonderful year!

Goals for 2018

Hey everyone! This year has gone by fast, and 2018 will be here soon. With the year ending it is that time again to see how you did on completing your goals from this past year and to set up new goals for the coming year.

This past year I only had two goals. One was to take more risks throughout the year. The second was to read 12 books. I completed the taking more risks goal, and was able to get out of my comfort zone by socializing more! This past year I started dating again for the first time since ending my engagement, and it definitely was not as bad as I had convinced myself it would be. I am sure the fact that the guy is one of the nicest guys there is helped a lot too! As far as my goal to read 12 books, I am still working on that. I read 11 books, so far, and am hoping to finish that last one tomorrow.

I already know what my goals are for next year, and I am excited to complete those! My goals for next year are;

  1. To read 12 books, and also under that complete my 2018 reading challenge!
  2. To run 2 5k’s
  3. To eat healthier for at least 1 meal a day
  4. To grow my lipsense business
  5. Save at least $150 per month
  6. To pay off any debt that I have
  7. Complete an item off my bucket list each month
  8. To pass my school classes

I do have quite a bit of goals this year, but I do plan on achieving them all! What are some of your goals for the New Year? Let me know in the comments below!


Favorite Apps

Hi everyone! Today I am going to write about a few of my favorite apps. I have an iPhone so every app I mention is available on there. I am sure you can get them on android too!

The first two apps I am going to talk about go hand in hand. Facebook and Instagram are two of my most used apps. I use both apps to communicate with friends and also to post about my blog and gain followers. It is great how much you can do using Facebook and Instagram!

The next app I use on the regular is Cooking Fever. I play this game every day! It is super addicting and tons of fun. Cooking Fever is a game where you play different levels in different restaurants by serving different customers. You also use coins and diamonds to buy cooking tools and restaurant furniture. This is currently my favorite game right now, and I highly recommend it!

The last app I am going to talk about is Pinterest. I am obsessed with Pinterest! In fact most of the crafts I do with the kids I babysit come from there. Not only do I pin crafts for the kids, but I also have boards dedicated to fitness, cooking, school, reading, movies, and clothes! Pinterest has everything on it, and is my go to source when I need to find out how to find something for babysitting or my own personal life. I can spend hours on Pinterest!

The 5 Love Languages

Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you about the 5 love languages. Recently I have been hearing a lot about the 5 love languages. I took the test and I am going to share my results with you along with a little on each category.

The five love languages are; physical touch, quality time, words of affirmation, receiving gifts, and acts of service. The test is free for anyone to take online. After taking the test you will see the different love languages rated in order from your highest to lowest score. The highest score you can get on each category is 12. After getting your results you can read the book, The 5 Love Languages by Dr. Chapman. Dr. Chapman’s book goes into more detail on what each category entails.

The first love language I am going to talk about is physical touch. People whose primary love language is physical touch are not very touchy. However, hugs, pats on the back, holding hands, and thoughtful touches on the arm, shoulder, or face go a long way. For those who score highest in this category physical presence and accessibility is crucial. I got a score of 8 in this category, making it my primary love language.

The second love language is quality time. Those who have this as their primary love language thrive in a relationship where there is full, undivided attention given. For those who strive on quality time things such as distractions, postponed dates, and failure to listen can really be hurtful. I got a 7 in the quality time section. For me, I love when I can just spend time with whoever I am dating. This could be doing something as simple as watching a movie at home.

The third love language I am going to touch on is word of affirmation.  Those who score high in this area really value words. Compliments mean the world to them. Hearing the words, “I love you” are important but hearing the reasons why will really raise their spirts. I received a 7 in words of affirmation, making it my second love language too.

The fourth love language is receiving gifts. Those who score the highest in this area do not care about how much is spent; they care about the thought behind the gift. I scored a 6 for this love language. An example of this was when my ex-fiancé brought me sunflowers he found in a field on his way back to Arizona. He knew that sunflowers are my favorite so he grabbed some. He did not spend a cent, but the fact he saw them and thought of me meant the world to me.

The fifth and last love language is acts of service. Something like vacuuming the floor can mean the world to those who have this as their primary love language. Anything to ease the burden goes a long way!
